Please follow government advice and check with individual parks regarding whether they can offer you a safe place to stay at this time.

We strongly recommend you stay at a caravan (RV) park. Australia has an extensive network of caravan parks in all major tourist centres and towns. Caravan parks offer excellent recreational opportunites, plus essential shower and toilet facilities. Powered sites allow you to connect your vehicle to electricity and charge the battery. We recommend that guests connect their vehicle to power at least every second night.

Freedom camping & budget camps

While we always recommend staying in a caravan park, there may be times while travelling rurally that you need to utilise a free or budget camp spot.  When free camping there are a few etiquette guidelines to follow to ensure the comfort of other campers and to protect the local area.

  • Arrive and depart the camp at a reasonable hour so as not to disturb fellow campers or locals, making sure to keep all noise to an absolute minimum after 9:00pm
  • Allow plenty of space away from fellow campers to allow for privacy
  • Ensure when parking your vehicle that you are not obstructing access for other campers
  • Observe when and where fires are permitted. Always have the means to put a fire out and be sure to double check the fire is completely extinguished before going to bed or leaving the camp site
  • All rubbish must be disposed of either in bins provided, or taken away with you and disposed of when there is a facility to do so properly
  • Do not waste water that is provided- many parts of Australia are drought affected
  • If there is a donation box make sure to add your donation before you leave as this will help the campground's upkeep and maintenance
